SAS Business Intelligence (BI/EBI) Consulting Start Up Services - A Sampling

  • Perform requirements gathering sessions to identify and document project specifications.
  • Use the SAS Management Console to configure SAS libraries for both SAS and non-SAS data sources. Assist the client in setting up the proxy accounts and the appropriate security measures for the non-SAS data sources.
  • Create a starter set of ETL processes to transform source data into the SAS data sets with proper cardinality and formatting for reporting. This ETL may be done in base SAS code, Enterprise Guide or SAS DI studio.
  • Create a starter set of information maps to support reporting for both Enterprise Guide and Web Report Studio.
  • Create a starter set of reports for both Enterprise Guide and Web Report Studio.
  • Create a starter set of Stored Processes to be exploited by Web Report Studio, Enterprise Guide or the MS-Office Add-in.
  • Identify and suggest a strategy for users converting from using the classic SAS client to Enterprise Guide.
  • Identify security requirements and suggest best practices using a mix of SAS metadata security along with operating system security.
  • Implement techniques for automating the synchronization of operating system security and user identity systems (Active Directory) with SAS security so that users and groups only need to be maintained in one place.
  • Suggest best practices for and assist in implementation of a roll-out strategy for any new reporting systems.

Example of SAS Enterprise Business Intelligence Quick Start

  • All of the above listed under BI.
  • Perform requirements gathering for cube development to identify how many cubes are required and the optimal development of each cube. It is at this point that perhaps dozens of legacy reports can be consolidated into one cube.
  • Develop the 'Mapping Spreadsheet' to clearly define measures, dimensions and filters to be implemented as part of the cube.
  • Develop a starter set of cubes to be exploited by Enterprise Guide or Web Report Studio.
  • Specify appropriate aggregations to support optimal performance for each of the starter cubes. Use the ARM logging facility where appropriate.
  • Configure the SAS Information Delivery Portal with the client's own logo and banners.
  • Configure custom tabs on the Information Delivery Portal for each reporting group as per the client's specifications. This process also entails configuring content administrators for each tab.
  • Provide custom training on Web Report Studio using the cubes and maps build from the client’s own data.
  • Document and perform knowledge transfer on all of the above.
